About The Event
A wetland is like a giant sponge, filtering out impurities and yielding clean water. It also promotes the existence of species that depend on this type of environment. But this type of land is extremely productive for agricultural purposes, and this led to massive drainage operations. In 1937 a group of conservationists formed Ducks Unlimited to raise money to preserve wetlands. From small beginnings it has grown into a large international organization that preserves wetlands in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. In 1991 Ducks Unlimited Australia, now called Wetland Care Australia, was formed to apply the same organizational model there. Join us to hear John Sturgill tell us about this organization.
